Discovery in Distress

RRS Discovery, when she was icebound . RRS Discovery spent over two years locked in pack ice in McMurdo Sound/Ross Island (1902–1904) during Robert Falcon Scott's expedition, serving as a floating base and laboratory before being freed by controlled explosives and relief ships (Morning and Terra Nova) in early 1904.
